Right, so here we are in Honfleur after a fantastic first day travelling and enjoying this historic town!
We left Lo’s friend’s house in Canterbury, Ju & Rich (thanks for putting us up for the night! :)) this morning to get to the ferry terminal for around 6:30am. Boarding went smoothly and so did the journey from the grey clouds of England to the sunny blue skies of France.
We departed the ferry and started on our route towards Honfleur. We stuck to the main roads, but this didn’t mean a boring journey, oh no, we were treated to fantastic scenery and nice clear French motorways and dual carriage ways.
We arrived in Honfleur around 1pm and managed to leave the car (in its own private garage), whilst we had a potter around the town. First stop was a nice cold beer! 🙂 Then, we looked around the port area and some of the lovely historic streets before deciding to go on a boat tour. This took us through the various harbours and the handy English printouts aided our understanding of all areas of Honfleur. The tour lasted around 45 minutes and was only 6 EUR, so very good value!
Once we arrived back on land, we headed to the B&B to check in. Behind an unassuming high, concrete wall, laid a beautifully gardened house with bag loads of character and a friendly owner thrown in for good measure. We had a rest for an hour or so before heading back out to get some tea.
We perused the menus and seating areas of all the restaurants around the port and settled on one that was quiet enough to have a waterside table, but looked nice also. We shared an apple and Camembert starter and then I had moules et frites and Lois had an Emmenthal omelette et frites. This was washed down with a beer and a nice bottle of Muscat white wine. Fantastic!
After the meal, we popped into a local shop to pick up a bottle of wine and finished the evening off with some al fresco battleships! 🙂
We’ve got a few things to go and see tomorrow around Honfleur including a couple of museums, a historic church and hopefully some more seafood for me!
Here’s my pics from the day!
Looks lovely Tom but battleships !!!!!
We know how to live it up Tommy! 🙂
Wild things 🙂
Battleships was great fun, untill we were eaten alive by mosquitos!
